At Crombie, we enable pupil voice in a number of ways.
Our Champions Group consists of 5 P7 pupils who support pupil’s right. They work with the SLT to support our community to be themselves and celebrate differences. They are currently working towards their Bronze level for the LGBTQ+ Charter.
Our digital leaders work with two teachers to learn about all things digital and to then take their learning into the classrooms to upskill peers and teachers. They are a very creative group who love the digital world and all that it offers.
We have a Pupil Council which represents the pupils’ voice. Pupils from P2 to P7 go through a formal election process i.e. nomination, election, talk, voting, to be their year representatives. Two pupils, one boy and one girl, are subsequently elected as pupil councillors and hold office for one year. To support them with this a depute boy and girl are also elected and stand up in their absence.
Throughout the year the ‘Council’ will meet regularly with staff members, be involved in discussions and take forward a variety of initiatives. In the past these have included supporting fundraising for selected charities and implementing changes to the school.
Pupil Council comments:
P2: “I think that it is fun!”
P5: “I like the Pupil Council because you get to help out with the school.”
P7: ”In the Pupil Council we help make lots of money for special events.”
We also have pupil representatives from P2 – P7 that help maintain the school eco-courtyard and gather suggestions from the whole school on how we can be more environmentally friendly.
Our rotakids group consists of P6 pupils who volunteer their time to support our local community and global charities. They meet regularly with our partners from the Rotary to consider how they can help local residents and good causes. So far this year they have collected for the Shoe Box Appeal, raised money for end polio now and plan to support a community litter pick.
Our Wellbeing Warriors are a large group of senior pupils who are passionate about improving the physical and mental wellbeing of all at Crombie School.
We have subgroups within this pupil leadership group. These are:
Data analysts - They work together to gather information about the pupil's wellbeing and interrogate the data to plan interventions.
Junior PSAs - on a rotational basis, pupils wear high vis vests and help in the early stages playground to support our younger children.
Mindfulness coaches - a group of mindfulness enthusiast are being trained in mindfulness coaching and are delivering mindfulness sessions to targeted groups and our nursery children.
The Wellbeing Warriors are a very successful and highly motivated group of pupils who are making a difference to the Crombie School community.
